Toronto FC has strengthened its defense by adding Walker Zimmerman, a two-time MLS Defender of the Year, to their roster until the 2027-28 MLS season. Zimmerman, a 32-year-old U.S. international, brings 13 years of MLS experience with FC Dallas, Los Angeles FC, and Nashville SC. He is a decorated player with multiple Best XI and all-star honors.
The team’s decision to not renew contracts for veteran defenders Kevin Long, Raoul Petretta, and Sigurd Rosted created a need for an experienced presence in the backline. Zimmerman will provide leadership alongside young defenders Lazar Stefanović, Zane Monlouis, and Nicksoen Gomis. Additionally, goalkeeper Sean Johnson has departed, moving to D.C.
