“Tragedy on Lake Rossignol: Two Children Lost in Boating Accident”

Tragedy struck on Lake Rossignol in Nova Scotia as two children under ten lost their lives when a boat capsized late Saturday. The incident involved a 45-year-old man and three children from Fall River, Nova Scotia.

RCMP spokesperson Cindy Bayers confirmed the presence of four individuals on the boat but did not provide details on their relationships. The incident occurred on Lake Rossignol, situated in Queens County in southwestern Nova Scotia.

Const. Mandy Edwards disclosed that all four individuals wore life jackets, and the man had checked the weather conditions beforehand. However, the weather worsened. Watch her discussion with Tom Murphy.

Const. Mandy Edwards provided further details, stating that the boat involved was a flat-bottom canoe with a malfunctioning motor. Despite all individuals wearing life jackets and the man being cautious about the weather, rough conditions led to the boat taking on water, ultimately capsizing.

Edwards highlighted the challenging wave conditions the children faced on the lake, mentioning their struggles. Upon reaching shore, the man tried to administer life-saving measures to the two children experiencing breathing difficulties.

The RCMP initiated a search and rescue operation just before 5 p.m. AT on Saturday, with various emergency response units, including RCMP, local fire departments, paramedics, and the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre, joining efforts, as per Bayers.

According to Maj. Trevor Ackland from the JRCC, individuals were airlifted to the hospital via a military Cormorant helicopter based on paramedics’ advice at the scene.

Subsequently, the patients were transferred to CFB Halifax before being taken to the hospital. Fortunately, the two surviving individuals sustained non-life-threatening injuries, Bayers confirmed.
