Actor Mike Smith, known for portraying Bubbles on the TV series “Trailer Park Boys,” is facing sexual assault charges. The charges were filed in Nova Scotia provincial court on Oct. 2 in Halifax, relating to an alleged incident on Dec. 30, 2017, in Dartmouth, N.S. The accusations are yet to be proven in court.
An order has been issued prohibiting Smith from contacting the alleged victim, whose identity is protected by a publication ban, or going to their school, workplace, or residence. Trailer Park Boys Inc. stated that Smith has voluntarily stepped down from his position as managing director amidst the allegations.
The production company acknowledged the seriousness of the 2017 allegation against Smith and emphasized their commitment to respecting the legal process. They declined to provide further comments at this time. Despite attempts to reach out to Smith’s representatives and lawyer for a response, no reply has been received yet.
Smith, along with co-stars Robb Wells and John Paul Tremblay, have gained global recognition through their portrayals in the long-running TV series, films, and spinoffs. The trio purchased the rights to the “Trailer Park Boys” franchise in 2013. The recent announcement by Trailer Park Boys Inc. indicated the completion of filming for Season 13, set to premiere in 2026.
Despite the ongoing legal proceedings, the production company remains focused on delivering the upcoming season to their dedicated fan base. Notably, in 2016, Smith was arrested in Los Angeles on a misdemeanor domestic battery charge, which was later dropped due to insufficient evidence.
Smith is scheduled for a court appearance in Halifax on Monday.
