The union representing WestJet cabin crew has disclosed details of the recent tentative agreement made with the Calgary-based airline following a one-day strike. The Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) announced that the deal entails an increase of over 18% in wages over a three-year period, along with a new “duty period premium” to compensate for ground work. Additionally, the agreement encompasses extended time off, augmented food, and uniform allowances, among other benefits.
Over the long holiday weekend, WestJet flights throughout much of Canada were suspended as 4,400 flight attendants prepared to strike, leading to disruptions for numerous passengers. However, an agreement was reached between the air carrier and the union early Monday, gradually restoring WestJet operations to normal.
Cabin crew members are scheduled to vote on the agreement in the upcoming weeks.
