“Windsor City Council Hosts Uncommon Gathering with Federal and Provincial Representatives”

Share

The City council has arranged a special meeting with Windsor’s federal and provincial representatives on Monday morning. This uncommon gathering will involve the city’s two Members of Parliament and two Members of Provincial Parliament engaging with Windsor’s councillors. The attendees include Conservative Windsor-Tecumseh-Lakeshore MP Kathy Borrelli, Conservative Windsor West MP Harb Gill, Conservative Windsor-Tecumseh MPP Andrew Dowie, and NDP Windsor West MPP Lisa Gretzky.

Scheduled to commence at 8 a.m. and conclude by 9:30 a.m., the meeting will precede the council’s usual session. Each representative will deliver an initial statement to the council before transitioning into a roundtable discussion. The discussion is anticipated to cover various topics that the city council has raised concerns about regarding higher levels of government.

In recent correspondences, the council has expressed opposition to provincial legislation mandating provincial approval for active transportation, requested inclusion in a compulsory treatment program pilot initiative, and urged a reevaluation of service delivery responsibilities. Additionally, they have solicited updates from the federal government on the establishment of a National Urban Park in Windsor, advocated for simpler “Buy Canadian” procurement practices, and called for a review of cases of Afghanistan veterans deserving a Victoria Cross decoration.

Although the meeting is open to the public, it will not be livestreamed. It will be held at City Hall in room 204, a spacious conference room previously utilized for budget committee meetings. The capacity for attendees is yet to be specified.

Subsequent to the meeting, the City of Windsor has uploaded a recording of the session online.
