Switzerland’s Silvana Tirinzoni emerged victorious in the women’s final at the HearingLife Canadian Open in Saskatoon, defeating Japan’s Satsuki Fujisawa with a commanding 7-1 score on Sunday. Tirinzoni took an early lead of 2-0 in the first end, but Fujisawa closed the gap to one point in the second end. Following a scoreless third end, Tirinzoni’s team secured five points over the next three ends, culminating in a triple in the sixth end. In the semifinals on Saturday, Tirinzoni, seeded second, bested Japan’s Sayaka Yoshimura 5-4 to secure her spot in the final.
On the other hand, the 10th-seeded Fujisawa defeated top-ranked Rachel Homan of Ottawa in the quarterfinals before triumphing over Momoha Tabata of Japan 7-5 in the semifinals.
In the men’s final, Yannick Schwaller of Switzerland clinched victory by scoring four points in the fifth end, establishing a 6-2 lead over Ross Whyte of Scotland. Whyte managed to score only one point in the sixth end, leading to a handshake finish.
Schwaller had previously defeated John Shuster of Duluth, Minn., with a 7-5 score in the semifinals on Saturday, while Whyte secured a 6-4 win over Bruce Mouat of Scotland in the other semifinal match.
