Chris Brown Admits Guilt in London Nightclub Assault

U.S. artist Chris Brown admitted guilt on Friday to an assault charge related to an incident in a London nightclub three years ago, where he was accused of attacking a producer with a bottle. The more severe assault charges were dropped. Brown, 37, and his vocal coach Omololu Akinlolu, 40, appeared in London’s Southwark Crown Court and acknowledged their identities and guilty pleas in connection to the altercation at Tape nightclub in London in February 2023. Originally facing charges of attempting to cause serious bodily harm and a lesser charge of assault causing actual bodily harm to Abraham Diaw, Brown and Akinlolu denied the allegations and were set for trial in October. However, they confessed to the charge of affray, acknowledging they had used or threatened violence against someone causing fear for their safety. The prosecution confirmed that the other charges would not proceed to trial. Brown and Akinlolu were granted bail and are scheduled for sentencing on October 26 at the same court. The maximum punishment for affray is three years in prison, and Judge Tony Baumgartner noted that all options would be considered. According to prosecutor Heidi Stonecliffe, the Crown Prosecution Service denounced the attack as vicious and unprovoked, emphasizing that such violence is intolerable and that the law applies to everyone. The prosecution alleged that Brown assaulted Diaw with a tequila bottle without provocation, with Akinlolu and Brown reportedly continuing the attack as Diaw attempted to escape. Brown, who was arrested in May 2025 upon his return to Britain for the first time since the incident, initially faced bail denial, jeopardizing his worldwide “Breezy Bowl XX” tour. However, he was eventually released after agreeing to pay a £5 million security fee, ensuring the tour proceeded as planned. Following the court appearance, Brown was greeted by cheering fans chanting “Breezy! Breezy!” as he signed autographs and departed in a waiting vehicle.
