Police in Guelph are currently investigating the theft of a refrigerated trailer containing approximately $80,000 worth of whipped cream from a business earlier this week. The incident occurred at around 4:30 a.m. on Wednesday in the vicinity of Speedvale Avenue W. close to Woolwich Street. The stolen Wabash refrigerated trailer, loaded with 30 pallets of Gay Lea-branded whipped cream, was hooked up and towed away.
Scott Tracey, a spokesperson for the Guelph police, stated that it is uncertain whether the thief targeted the trailer or the cream specifically. The value of the trailer alone is estimated to be around $50,000. A representative from Gay Lea Foods confirmed that the trailer and its contents were stolen from their facility at 21 Speedvale Avenue W. The company is fully cooperating with law enforcement in their investigation.
In recent years, there have been multiple incidents of butter thefts in Guelph, Brantford, and the Waterloo region. However, Tracey emphasized that this whipped cream theft differs from previous butter thefts as the motive behind it remains unclear.
