Get set for an adventure! Jeremy Hansen’s groundbreaking expedition on the Artemis II mission will be chronicled in a new book scheduled for release this autumn.
Titled “Earthrise: A Canadian Astronaut’s Journey into Deep Space,” the book will share Hansen’s perspective as the first Canadian to journey into deep space. The author of the book is John Larsen, a former senior military public affairs officer.
The Artemis II team set a new record for the farthest distance traveled from Earth, capturing the attention and admiration of Canadians. This marked the first crewed lunar mission in over half a century.
The Artemis II crew comprised Hansen, alongside NASA astronauts Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, and Christina Koch. Throughout the 10-day mission, the astronauts conducted tests on various systems, including communication via NASA’s Deep Space Network (DSN), and studied the effects of space on the human body.
Although the crew did not land, Hansen made history as the first Canadian and non-American to journey to the moon. During the mission, they beheld never-before-seen parts of the moon.
Hansen expressed, “The Artemis II mission symbolizes the pinnacle of human potential: the next chapter in space exploration and innovation.”
“Earthrise” will delve into Hansen’s extensive training, the fulfillment of his lifelong astronaut dream, and the lunar mission that propelled him into deep space. Hansen, who retired from the Canadian Space Agency earlier this year after 32 years in the military and 17 years as an astronaut, shared his excitement for this new chapter.
Larsen, a writer and university instructor based in Calgary, conducted thorough interviews with Hansen for the book. Larsen described the book as a tale of personal triumph, national pride, and the pursuit of individual aspirations.
“Earthrise: A Canadian Astronaut’s Journey into Deep Space” is slated for publication on October 27, 2026, by HarperCollinsCanada.
