Rising talent Gabriel Diallo will lead Canada’s Davis Cup team in their upcoming qualifier against Brazil at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver. Alongside Diallo, the squad will feature Liam Draxl, Alexis Galarneau, Nicolas Arsenault, and Cleeve Harper, as confirmed by Tennis Canada.
The Davis Cup first-round match is scheduled for February 6-7 at the Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre. Diallo, currently ranked 40th in the world, is expected to make his 10th consecutive Davis Cup appearance after a successful 2024 season where he entered the top 100 in the ATP Tour rankings and secured his first ATP Tour title at the Libema Open last year.
The outcome of the Canada-Brazil tie will determine which team progresses to the second qualifying round in September. The top seven teams from this round will join Italy in the Davis Cup Final 8 in November. The tie format will consist of two singles matches followed by a doubles match and two more singles matches on the second day.
Canadian captain Frank Dancevic expressed confidence in the team’s strength for the upcoming Davis Cup fixture, emphasizing their determination to excel this year following their absence in the final stage last season. The Canadian team, previous winners of the Davis Cup in 2022, secured their place in the first qualifying round by defeating Israel 4-0 in a World Group I tie in Halifax last September.
Draxl holds the 132nd spot in the latest singles rankings, with Galarneau at 213th, Arsenault at 501st, and Harper ranked 94th in doubles. Diallo’s victory over Zizou Bergs at the Libema Open in June 2025 marked his first ATP Tour title win.
