Montreal’s Felix Auger-Aliassime emerged victorious once again by clinching the European Open title in Belgium over the weekend. The 25-year-old Canadian defeated Jiri Lehecka from the Czech Republic with a score of 7-6(2), 6-6(7), 6-2 in the hard-court ATP 250 tournament held in Brussels.
Auger-Aliassime, seeded as the No. 2 player in the competition, showcased an impressive performance by delivering 17 aces during the intense two-hour and 34-minute match, securing 79% of his first-serve points. Despite losing the second set, he maintained control by converting two out of six break-point opportunities and denying Lehecka any chance to break his serve.
Reflecting on his victory, Auger-Aliassime commented, “It’s the final, so we put everything on the line. I feel like we were both extremely focused from the beginning. It was a high level for two sets, then you don’t know how things can go. But I’m obviously glad.”
This win marks Auger-Aliassime’s eighth career title and his third triumph of the year, following his earlier successes in Montpellier, France, and Adelaide, Australia at the beginning of 2025. With this achievement, he joins Milos Raonic as the Canadian male player with the most singles titles in the Open era. Currently ranked 13th globally, Auger-Aliassime has moved down from his previous position of 6th in November 2022.
