“Tony Award Nominations: ‘The Lost Boys’ and ‘Schmigadoon!’ Lead with 12 N

Two productions, The Lost Boys and Schmigadoon! , scored the highest with 12 Tony Award nominations each. Among the nominees, 96-year-old June Squibb made history as the oldest Tony-nominated actor, while Danny Burstein became the most-nominated male actor in Tony history.

In addition to these leading contenders, Ragtime revival and Death of a Salesman starring Nathan Lane also received significant recognition, with 11 and 9 nominations respectively. A total of 24 shows were acknowledged across the 26 Tony categories, including innovative productions like Cats: The Jellicle Ball and the revival of Chess.

The competition for the best new musical includes The Lost Boys, Schmigadoon!, Titanique, and Two Strangers (Carry a Cake Across New York). On the other hand, the best new play category features works like Giant, Liberation, The Balusters, and Little Bear Ridge Road.

June Squibb’s nomination for Marjorie Prime secured her place as the oldest Tony-nominated actor, surpassing the previous record holder, Lois Smith. Meanwhile, Danny Burstein made history as the most-nominated male actor, earning nine nods for his role in Marjorie Prime.

Notable nominees in the best play revival category include Every Brilliant Thing, Death of a Salesman, Oedipus, Becky Shaw, and Fallen Angels. John Lithgow, a two-time Tony winner, is a strong contender for the leading actor award.

Rose Byrne, known for her work in the film If I Had Legs I’d Kick You and the play Fallen Angels, joins the ranks of actors nominated for both an Oscar and a Tony in the same year. The nominations also feature standout performances from Kelli O’Hara, Lesley Manville, Susannah Flood, and Carrie Coon.

Best actor and actress in a musical categories showcase talents like Joshua Henry, Brandon Uranowitz, Sam Tutty, Nicholas Christopher, Luke Evans, Caissie Levy, Marla Mindelle, Christiani Pitts, Sara Chase, and Stephanie Hsu.

The Tony Awards ceremony is set for June 7 at Radio City Music Hall, with Pink hosting the event. Viewers can catch the live broadcast on CBS and stream it on Paramount+. Last year’s show, hosted by Cynthia Erivo, attracted 4.85 million viewers, marking the highest broadcast audience in six years according to Nielsen ratings.
