Prime Minister Mark Carney announced Canada’s collaboration with India and Australia on cutting-edge technologies during the G20 summit in South Africa. The trilateral partnership aims to enhance supply chain diversity, promote clean energy usage, and facilitate the wider adoption of artificial intelligence among the three democratic nations.
This initiative marks a significant step as Canada seeks to strengthen its ties with India following a period of tension, with allegations from the RCMP linking New Delhi to the murder and extortion of Canadian citizens. In a joint statement issued on Saturday, the trio unveiled the formation of the Australia-Canada-India Technology and Innovation Partnership (ACITI).
The partnership, as outlined in the statement, will leverage the unique strengths of the three countries with a focus on advancing green energy innovation, establishing robust supply chains – particularly in critical minerals, and exploring the integration of artificial intelligence to enhance the well-being of their populations. Plans are underway for officials from the three nations to convene in early 2026 to propel the initiative forward.
While attending the G20 summit in Johannesburg, Carney witnessed most leaders endorsing a collective declaration, despite the absence of the U.S. due to a boycott. The declaration encompasses commitments to address climate change, promote women’s rights, and address issues in the Middle East – areas where the U.S. administration under President Donald Trump had previously expressed reservations.
