Waterloo regional police are looking into multiple vehicle accidents in recent days, which have resulted in the deaths of two pedestrians.
One incident occurred on Friday night when a pickup truck collided with a pedestrian on Christopher Drive near Champlain Boulevard in Cambridge. The pedestrian, a 60-year-old woman from Cambridge, was pronounced dead at the scene, while the truck driver remained unharmed.
Another collision took place on Saturday afternoon on Wilmot Centre Road near Bleams Road involving a motorcycle and a pedestrian. The pedestrian, a 66-year-old man from Wilmot, was taken to a hospital outside the region where he was later pronounced dead. The 34-year-old male driver of the motorcycle did not sustain any injuries.
According to a spokesperson from the Waterloo Regional Police Service, there is no indication that impairment played a role in either of these incidents.
In a separate early morning hit-and-run event on Saturday around 12:30 a.m., police responded to a car crashing into a hydro pole in the Christner Road and Waterloo Street area of Wilmot. The driver fled the scene, causing significant damage to the pole and knocking down powerlines.
Authorities are seeking a red Chevrolet Silverado from the model years 2017-2021, which is believed to have suffered substantial front-end damage and may be missing the Chevrolet emblem.
Investigations are ongoing for all three accidents, and individuals with information or dashcam footage are encouraged to reach out to the police or Crime Stoppers.
