Hyundai Canada has announced a safety recall for certain Elantra Hybrid vehicles from 2024 to 2026 due to a potential fire hazard. The recall affects 6,082 cars in Canada, as confirmed by Hyundai. Despite this issue, there have been no reported fires, incidents, injuries, or fatalities related to this issue in Canada, according to Hyundai spokesperson Nitish Bissonauth in communication with CBC News.
In the United States, a total of 54,337 vehicles have been recalled for the same issue, as reported by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The problem is linked to a potential malfunction in the hybrid power control unit of the affected vehicles, which may result in overheating, causing concerns over a “no start” situation or reduced power mode in most cases, with a heightened risk of fire in severe instances.
Hyundai has assured that it is notifying all impacted vehicle owners and will conduct a complimentary software update to address the overheating issue.
