Freestyle skiing champion Mikaël Kingsbury opted out of the dual moguls event on Saturday following his historic 100th World Cup victory in men’s moguls the day before. The competition in Val Saint-Come, Quebec marked Kingsbury’s first appearance this season, having missed the season-opener due to a groin injury.
Despite his victory on Friday, Kingsbury deliberated on competing back-to-back days. However, his spokesperson later confirmed that the Canadian athlete would not participate in the dual moguls event to adhere to his competition plan and ensure his fitness for the upcoming Olympic Games.
The Winter Olympics in Milan Cortina are set to commence on February 6, with dual moguls making its Olympic debut. Kingsbury, who clinched Olympic gold in moguls in 2018 and silver in 2014 and 2022, has an impressive track record of nine gold medals in moguls and dual moguls at the world championship.
In the men’s dual moguls competition, nine other Canadian athletes took part, along with nine Canadian women in the women’s event.
