The Ottawa Charge and the Vancouver Goldeneyes of the PWHL exchanged six players in a trade on Sunday. This trade, occurring during the league’s third season, set a record for the most players involved in a single trade. It took place just before the league’s upcoming month-long Olympic break.
Michela Cava, Brooke McQuigge, and Emma Greco are the new additions to the Charge. Cava, a forward, had five points in 13 games for Vancouver. Vancouver acquired three forwards, including Anna Shokhina, a Russian Olympian. Shokhina has scored one goal and three assists in 12 games since joining the PWHL.
Additionally, Vancouver added Mannon McMahon, a two-way forward, and Anna Meixner, a player from Austria’s national team. Each of Ottawa’s new players has previously won the Walter Cup with the Minnesota Frost.
The Charge and the Goldeneyes are currently positioned fifth and seventh in the league standings, respectively. Both teams have experienced recent losing streaks, with Vancouver struggling to score goals and conceding an average of 2.6 goals per game.
The general managers of both teams expressed optimism about the impact the new players will have. Charge GM Mike Hirshfeld praised Cava’s winning mentality, while Vancouver GM Cara Gardner Morey highlighted the players’ competitiveness and skill on the ice.
