Quebec’s MusiquePlus, the former influencer of music tastes, is making a comeback on TikTok. The iconic TV channel, known for its glass studio in Montreal and music videos that shaped CD playlists, is relaunching on the popular app in partnership with TikTok.
In a French announcement video, MusiquePlus stated, “New generation, same DNA,” emphasizing its return with a modern twist. Following the footsteps of MuchMusic, which found success on TikTok in 2021, MusiquePlus aims to highlight music, culture, and entertainment, focusing on Quebec’s creative voices with a new lineup of VJs and creators.
Originally established in 1986, MusiquePlus played a crucial role in promoting local talents like Véronique Cloutier, Geneviève Borne, and Anne-Marie Withenshaw, as well as broadcasting Celine Dion’s album launch in 1990. The channel was discontinued in 2019, but its revival on TikTok aims to revive its legacy and empower local talent and culture.
TikTok’s influence in the music industry is undeniable, with Canadian artists like Tate McRae and the Beaches finding success through the platform. The app has become a key tool for artists to promote their music, with songs like McRae’s “You Broke Me First” and the Beaches’ “Blame Brett” going viral and achieving significant success.
The new MusiquePlus content, produced by Attraction, Motion Entertainment, and Remstar, will pay homage to the channel’s past while catering to the interests of today’s audience. The upcoming VJs, aged 20 to 35, will bring a fresh perspective to the platform, combining their social media expertise with a deep understanding of TikTok’s style and tone.
