Alannah Keyser, a 21-year-old contestant, has been ousted from the ongoing season of Love Island USA after a video resurfaced online showing her using a racial slur. The removal occurred shortly after Keyser, a college student from Miami, made a bombshell entrance during the Casa Amor episodes in the reality dating series on Peacock.
Following her arrival at the villa on June 21, a Snapchat video emerged showing Keyser singing along to a song that contained the N-word, believed to be rapper Roddy Ricch’s track “The Box.” Love Island USA narrator Iain Stirling announced her sudden departure during Thursday night’s episode, stating simply, “Alannah has left Casa Amor.”
After her initial appearance on Season 8, where she seemed to connect with contestant Zach Georgiou, viewers noticed a decrease in Keyser’s screen time. Similar incidents have been seen in previous seasons, such as when Vasana Montgomery was removed from the show after old clips of her using a racial slur resurfaced before the premiere.
In a familiar pattern for the show, Keyser’s exit is not an isolated incident. Previous seasons have also seen contestants like Yulissa Escobar and Cierra Ortega being ousted due to similar controversies. Escobar issued an apology on Instagram, acknowledging her mistake and expressing regret for the impact of her words.
Keyser was contacted for comment by CBC News but did not respond before the publication deadline. Instances of contestants facing consequences for past behavior have stirred discussions on social media and prompted the production to address cyberbullying against participants.
The incidents serve as a reminder of the scrutiny that Love Island contestants face both on and off-screen, highlighting the importance of accountability for their actions.
